Argh...
Hi there. I followed the guide on this site "How to Build Your Own PC." Obviously, this is my first time doing so. The assembly wasn't really bad; When I first turned my system on it had one long, unbroken beep. I had overlooked the pci-e power cord. Plugged that in, powered up. No beeps at all, long or short, and the monitor does not display anything.
I've tried reseating the CPU, Video Card, Memory... I'm quite frustrated. Here are my specs: Motherboard: ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Processor Fan: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler RAM: G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Video: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive Optical: Samsung SH-S203B Case: COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case PSU: OCZ GameXStream ATX12V 600W Power Supply 100 Sound: Onboard Any help would be awesome. |

Welcome to PCmech, sounds to me like your motherboard might be shorting somehow. Try doing an out of case boot and see if you can get video. I always do that before I build the computer that way I don't have to install the motherboard and all the other components twice. If you test it out of the case and it is still doing the same you might want to RMA the motherboard and video card back to Asus and Evga or send them back to where you bought them. Thats one of the risks of building your own is that sometimes you get a defective part then you have to wait for the replacement.
Make sure and put the motherboard on the cardboard box directly and not the bag it came in like a lot of people do, that bag will toast the motherboard, make sure no metalic objects are touching it. If the system boots ok out of the case then you might want to look at the cooler master case and see if you are mounting everything correctly, sometimes cases can have things touching the motherboard. I personaly had a lot of bad luck with Cooler Master cases.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I ordered all the parts from NewEgg.
Going to take a few minutes breather before I pull the entire thing out of the case. The prospect of doing that after hours spent on it yesterday and the day before is almost enough to unman me. |

I can't get it to boot out of case... I mean, I've got the CPU, fan/heatsink, 1 stick of RAM, and video card installed. The PSU is hooked up to the motherboard and the video card. I've tried using a screwdriver to complete the circuit between the two pins and boot up, but nothing happens.

The motherboard has 2 power connectors: the big 24 pin and the 8 pin by the CPU.
Could try to pull the battery for 5 minutes and reinstall.
