My first build, Need some help.
Hi
This is my first build and I once had another thread couple months ago for prepping it, but I couldnt find it. I am having a little trouble choosing a motherboard and power supply and I have chosen them but am not so sure about them. I would recommend trying your onboard sound first. These days onboard sound usually sounds good enough that you don't need a seperate sound card.
You might want to consider 5.1 surround sound since it is only about $20 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121126 I have heard that it can be hard to find drivers for 64 bit operating systems, but I don't know if that has changed lately. Vista Home Premium 32 Bit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116202 $100 after mail in rebate for a 650W great quality PSU seems like a really good deal to me. You could probably get by with the 550W corsair, but if you want to keep upgrading the video card in this system in the future, it is probably a good idea to get plenty of amps on the 12V rail (the Corsair 650W has plenty). A few observations...
1) Try on board sound first, it's pretty good these days. You can always add a card later. Your best bet would be the Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer. 2) If you don't plan on using SLI, no need to spend the extra money for an SLI motherboard. Save some money and get something from the P5K series. 3) Do you do a lot of multi-tasking, or more gaming? The E8400 would be better and faster for gaming, and newegg finally has them in stock. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 4) You really only need one DVD drive. If you burn a ton of movies you could get a separate DVD ROM later down the road. Also, make sure the drive is SATA rather than IDE. IDE is an older standard and won't work well with new motherboards. SATA is also a smaller cable which means better air flow. The Lite-On you selected is good. 5) With Vista, no real need for a FDD. But it's cheap, so if you feel you will use it, go for it. 6) Those speakers are about the best 2.1 you can get for the price, nice choice. |

Yes I do do alot of multi tasking and a good amount of gaming, a good amount of making movies, and reason why I have 2 drives is so I can burn and rip at same time or various other combinations, I would rather have 64 bit to be honest because of more memory, and alex530 and andper10 I will try onboard sound first. And the reason why I have a FDD is because we have a good amount of them around the house and I might need info off of them or have to put something on one for someone.
alex530 that was the processor that I chose before thhe quad but decided to go quad since I wont have to update for longer period. I dont really know what SLI is, can anyone tell me? Thanks for the comments. |

SLI is using two video cards in tantum to increase performance. It can really help with very large monitors, where resolution issues occure. It is also used in very top in gaming computers to make the best even better. It is pretty expensive when done right because you need two of the most expensive component in a computer so for most people I would not advixe it. You end up paying a lot for only minor improvment (if not on very large monitor) and it is easier to just upgrade video cards when the need arrises.

That list looks fine.
You can swap out the HP DVD Burner with a simple DVDROM. You'll still be able to read and write to CDs and DVDs. I'd stick with the LiteOn brand to go with your other burner.
