hey again all i posted a thread a few weeks ago with my new build. I was doing some research and decided to look at the amd quad core proccessors, im having a little trouble finding a mobo that seems to be a good brand and not too expensive. so if i could get a little help with that and also could you let me know if i should keep my original build ideas or go for quad. Thanks alot all.
Here is the quad core im looking at http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103244 here is the link to my first thread with my build list: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=195127 |

This is a good motherboard with a new chipset which fully supports quad core:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128075 The motherboard you have in your thread is a open box item which comes just with the motherboard and nothing else, the one in the link is a bit more expensive, but has cables, manuals, jumpers, cds and the I/O plate.

Yeah, you'll probably want all the cables, otherwise it's a bit annoying finding hard drive/optical cables.

so you think its a better idea to go with the quad core and the mobo you linked then my original idea of the amd 6400 duel core?
also will the ram i have picked out still work on the board you linked even though its ddr2 800? OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820227267 Or do you recommned something else since that board can go up to DDR2 1066 ? Quad Core is a good choice over Dual Core if you are going to be using the computer for a long time (two years or more). I would suggest going with a B3 Phenom like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103250 because it is a decent amount faster due to the TLB bug fix.
The OCZ ram should run fine, you won't need faster ram, but if you can find a good deal on them, the Phenom will take advantage of the faster ram. |

thanks for the help. Im new to OCing so maybe i will just stick with the 9750 like you linked and just use that to get my feet wet with ocing. i was looking at this mobo since it got good reviews, and it has some ocing features and a decent price. What do you think?
