Given that two boards are the same make and model, and cards installed in each board are identical, and optional features have been disabled in the BIOS on the fully populated board. (Booting from IDE drive)
Will the board stripped of RAID, LAN, Audio, and Video, boot faster than its counterpart carrying all of the optional features ? How much difference will this make ? Consider now, boards of the same make, but not the same model. Do boards equipped with RAID and serial ATA, boot and reboot much slower than boards not offering those features ? Perhaps you can think of a few examples ? |

1. It will not make a noticeable difference unless RAID is enabled. If raid is enabled it could add around 10-20 seconds to boot time while it initializes the arrays.
2. Same as above. 3. Same as above. examples? er.....any and every board....ever. Probably. Last edited by aram; 04-20-2008 at 06:04 AM. |

I see ... Then obviously, the differences in boot speed that I've seen so far, are a reflection of how correctly the operating system installed, and whether the board maker's releases were accurate. Perhaps if I ran only XP, the boot speed would be about the same from board-to-board. But I insist on running Windows 98 because it can run really fast.
