First Build, Need Graphics Card Help
First let me preface this by stating that I'm currently using an old P3 that I got from work for free so I'm not looking for the fastest, most amazing pc that can have three monitors running three games at once. I mainly use my pc for the Adobe suite (photoshop cs2 mainly) and video editing. Will probably use it to watch HD dvds if possible.
I started this endeavor when I saw that microcenter was selling the Intel Q6600 for $199. I thought that was too good to pass up. I then found a Foxconn mb for $44.99 after mail-in rebate. A friend of mine was recommending a mobo that allowed for SLI, but I'm not sure I need that technology for what I'm planning to use this for. However, I do have an aquos 46" 1080p lcd that I wouldn't mind hooking my pc up to if I could do it without spending too much. So here's what I've pieced together thus far: Intel® Boxed Core(tm) 2 Quad Processor Q6600 $199 Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC ATX 430W Power Supply - Retail $39.99 (29.99 after mail-in rebate) A-DATA 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model ADQVE1B16K - Retail $73.99 Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $54.99 ($44.99 after mail-in rebate) SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S203N - OEM $33.99 So that's what I have thus far. I need some advice on a solid graphics card to use with this set-up or recommendations on a different economy mobo that supports a better video card if necessary. Also, any recommendations on SATA HDs would be appreciated. Thanks. |

For hard drive, look at the seagate 7200.11 series. Sata connections.
I would recommend a different mb. I llike asus p5k series. Look ath teh p5k-se for a budget board. Not a fan of samsung drives, as they have had issues. Look at lite-on retail sata drives. Or asus drives. For a video card for video editing, I'm not really sure. Someone else should be able to chime in with that. I think ati has the advantage over nvidia with those types of cards.

Would look to a different PSU. That Thermaltake has pretty low 12v rail. That PSU is basicly an old ATX type supply with the extra 4 pin and PCI-E connectors added. With a video card, you probably will want something closer to 500w.
This would be a good choice and budget friendly: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104037 For a video card, something like this would do you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102728
