has anyone heard of this?? are there companies that sell laptop motherboards, cases, etc.?

Asus use to sell kits, but dont think it is really practical to build a lap top from scrap.

As I commented in another thread...

WHen I was in the computer business, I sold a couple of custom laptops like that... in the longrun, the users weren't overly happy with them and I know one of them for sure sold it and bought a Dell.

I build custom laptops with Asus and Compal parts, I have sold over 200 of them (knock on wood) never had one come back with a problem. Can't say the same about all the Dells and HPs that come in for repair daily.

You have to find a reseller willing to sell you the barebones chassis. I don't think the factories will sell them to you direct.
