Quick question/ And my build, tell me what u think

q6700 or q9300 ?
putting the parts together for my new - first build. I keep seeing the q6700 price was at $513 and i was like dang thats exspensive must be good right? Soo i thought i would go with the q9300 was $279.99. BUt then i look today and the q6700 drop down in price big time down to $259.. usually price and GHz tell whats a better processor from my understanding. 6700=2.66ghz 65nm and the 9300 2.5ghz 45nm. Guess im curious why the price went down soo far. From what i see that 6700 is better.. Can i get some INFO plz

Are these parts compatible? Any other advice will be appreciated.

The q9300 is the newer 45nm processor. The 45nm runs cooler and uses less power. The q6700 is the older 65nm processor and the price probably dropped because the store finally sold out the old stock. The price from the Intel dropped quite a while ago. Stock I would say the newer processor probably has an advantage in performance and I think has a bit more cache. Dont have one so could be a bit off but that would be my feeling. Now I have heard the 6700 is an great OC'er and not sure how the 9300 compairs so if you want to play with it a bit the 6700 could very well be the better chip. You would need to discuss that on some OC'ing forums, I dont OC.

As for your build I would suggest.

Get a 7200.11 HD, 32 mb cache instead of 16mb.

Stay away from Apevia PSU, they are just not know as a quality unit. Check out this list for recommended PSUs.

Stick with a P5K-E MB. DDR3 is not ready for prime time. It is expensive and current processors can not unlock its potential unless you are into extream OC’ing so it performs about the same as DDR2.

Stick with DDR2 800 ram. If OC’ing then perhaps the 1066 has some use but it would require a pretty serious OC to even match the speed of 800.

Check out the new Toxic 3870s from sapphire. They have been getting great reviews.

Apevia power supplies are NO GOOD!

I recommend Seasonic, Sparkle, FSP and Antec Power supplies.

The power supply is the most important component in your system.

Have you checked out the new AMD 9850 Quad Core? it is awesome and has a newer more advanced architecture than the Intel.
If you like ATI you should consider AMD instead of Intel, specialy if you are thinking about Crossfire.

I have a Q9300 and am very happy with it's performance... though I don't have a way of directly comparing it to the Q6700.

If you're not going to OC anything, you're probably good with the stock cooling in the ANTEC 900. I've got a Q9300 in mine with 2x GPU in SLI and don't have heat problems.

Corsair is also a good brand for power supplies.
