Looks like a pretty good list, you won't have compatibility issues, what do you need the computer for? If it is at all for gaming, consider a different video card, the 8500GT is really slow and will fall behind older cards such as the X1600Pro and 7600GS which cost about the same. If you will be using it for video, consider ATI cards which have better video decoding and quality (I'm using a 9600GT, but my previous card, the X1600XT had better video playback).

I'd bump that memory up to DDR2 800.

If by any chance you are planning on gaming, I would spend the money on a better graphics card than spending it on that CPU.
If you are not gaming then you are wasting your money on this 8500GT, you can get away with a 9600GT or even an 8600GTS.

According to the Asus site, the E8400 will work just fine with the P5K-E.

Thanks everyone. The plan is to build a basic, general purpose computer. Not specific to anything. Little bit of work, occasional game, maybe watch a move or two when I'm bored and surf the net. I'll look into changing the memory and the vid card.

Are your existing HD, DVD, CD SATA or IDE? Newer boards have no native IDE support. IDE is provided by a 3rd party controller. They also tend to have fewer IDE sockets. The 3rd party controllers should work but it is something to consider. If gaming at all I would highly recommend moving up a notch on video card. Check out this review to help you chose where you want to be.
