Hard drive issue

So I've just built my first PC and now I've run into a bit of trouble with my hard drive. Its this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098.
Other Specs:
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813141005

Now, I can turn my computer on and whenever I do, my hard drive turns on and makes a noise like its on. My computer then shows the 6 SATA ports. My CD drive is connected to number 5 and the hard drive is connected to number 6. Well, my computer shows that the CD drive is connected to SATA 5, but SATA 6 has nothing there. Its just blank. All the other SATA ports have "None" next to them.

Now I went into CMOS, Standard CMOS features, SATA 6, IDE Auto-Detection, pressed enter, it says Detecting Hard Drive...., and still does not detect it. So now what? Do I need to return it and get a new one?

I've also heard of jumpers, but on the top of the hard drive and a few websites it says it doesn't require jumpers, so thats not it. Also, I've tried different SATA ports and it never recognizes the hard drive. It still shows nothing whenever I hook it up to any SATA port.

DOA hard drives are just another of life's little inconveniences.
Get the RMA from newegg, they're not going to hassle you over it, and have them send you a replacement.
Be sure to include the info they asked you for and pack the drive correctly.

Before you rma the hard drive, you might want to try a different sata cable. Try switching the one with the dvd drive.

If that doesn't work, then I would follow pam's advice and rma the hard drive.

Did you try connecting the hard drive to SATA 1 yet? Normally you would use the lowest number as the main drive connection.

Why did you connect the hard drive to SATA 6 anyway?

Yea, I tried connecting to SATA 1. SATA 1 was on the side of the motherboard and wasn't facing up.

I'll go ahead and rma it.

I got me a new hard drive so everything is cool now.

One other thing though, whenever I connect a mouse to the green connection on the back of the motherboard (PS2 connection?) the computer never reacts to it? I'll move the mouse and nothing happens on screen. I have another computer that reacts to it, so the mouse isn't broken.
The keyboard works and whenever I plug a USB mouse into the computer it works.

Might want to check the bios settings and see if it says anything about that port.

It could be that the port is bad, or maybe it's just not playing nice with that mouse, and you might want to try a different one.

There will probably be a setting somewhere like "Legacy device support". Enable that and it should work. But I would just get a USB mouse anyway.
