Newbuild problems- Firewire installation

First time newbuilder having a couple of teething problems.
I thought it was worth asking advice before turning on the power..!

Firstly, there is a front panel Firwire socket on the Epak ATX case I am re-using with a cable with 8 pins (one is blanked).
The Firewire header on the mobo (Gigabite GA MA69GM s2H is IEEE1394a and has a 10 pin connector, with one pin removed.
So 9 pins on the header, 7 pins on the plug leading to the socket.
These do not appear compatible to me, as the blanked pin and missing pin do not correspond in location.
Does anyone know whether this is correct?

Also, the PWR-SW connector (consisting of a twsted pair or black and white wires) will connect to the mobo header either way round, and I cannot find guidance about whether there is a 'right' way. From my rudimentary understanding of DC, I'd have expected either way to be fine..., but again thought I'd check.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
Jon

I don't personally know, as this seems like an awkward issue, however, you may want to try Gigabyte's technical support regarding their motherboard. Their online technical support can be found here.

Wish I could be of more help.

For the power switch, I think you can just try it one way, and if it doesn't work, then switch them.

As for the firewire cable, you might just be out of luck. I wouldn't try to force it into the socket.

My case came with a Y cable that has both 8 and 10 pin firewire, by the look of it the only difference is 10 pin has another set of power rails. I'm sure such a cable could be souced easily enough.
