Intel Quad Core vs Duo
I've been looking at processors some and realized that these two items are the same price:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model Which would I be better going with? I won't be doing much over clocking and won't be running too many program simultaneously. I'll be doing a few games such as Warcraft III and Counterstrike, and some photo editing with GIMP or Adobe Photoshop. |

I'd go with the E8500 just because it's faster and will run cooler than the Kentsfield...but that's just me.

I'd say quad core just to futureproof.

I would go with the C2D. Very little software takes advantage of quad core and if you are not multi tasking alot then go for the speed of the duel core. you can alway save the quad for a future upgrade if software starts being developed to utilise more cores.

For Gaming the Core 2 Duo is probably better.
For things like photoshop and animation, the Quad may have some advantages. I dont see where the Quad has that many advantages. It might run slower and a little cooler. If you are looking at $10-$30 difference choosing a quad will not make much differrence. Maybe you should consider the Q9300? I think it is a toss-up. My suggestion is to look for some comparisons with benchmarks. Example: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...0_9.html#sect0 Last edited by piasabird; 05-02-2008 at 03:13 PM. |

@Everyone: Thanks for your comments. I think I'll probably go with the 3.16 duo unless something changed in the near future.
