question about rebates....

so you send in the Receipt.. does this forfeit the warranty.? i haven't bought a lot of really expensive stuff.. until lately, so i am not familiar with the process.

after my Peace Corp experience in 73-74 in Africa, i never got over the culture shock from returning, since then have lived very simply and never became much of a consumer.. the computer is my connection to the outside world.. so i am building a good one.

i am an aerospace technician, built flight control circuit boards for the F22, Delta3 Rocket, some stuff guys in suits brought to me after work on occasion, etc etc.
this is the first assembly i have done that wasn't MLstd2000a .. this time i only have one hand to work with.. i should have it done in a week, the parts are trickling in..

i really enjoy and appreciate the help and terrific information shared here.. thanks

You usually send a copy of the reciept and the UPC sysbol on the box. It does not void warrenty but might make it impossible to return the item to the store for an exchange. I usually skip rebates that are too short and I cant get computer up and running before having to send them in. I like the ability of just sending stuff back to Newegg if it does not work. Keep the original reciept and your warrenty will stay inforce.

Best of luck on your build

Kat

Yes, once you cut the UPC out of the box the store does not want it back. Without the UPC I dont even think the store can return it to the manifacture for a replacement. So check the dates on rebates to make sure you have time to finish your build and check it out.

I have used rebates on computer cases early, because not much can go wrong that you cant see. I have also used them on RAM once it was installed and up and runniing. But I have also skipped a few when the timing did not work out. At newegg you can go to the rebate page and see how long you have to submit before you decide to buy an item with a rebate.

That's true for returning the item to the store but you still can get replacements for defective parts under the manufacturer's warranty. It's not as convenient and you have to get an rma from the manufacturer but it's still available.
