USB2.0 problem

Hi,
Just completed my first new build- yay! Everything seems fine, except when I plug in USB2.0 devices, XP tells me that the ports are not high speed (and that there are no USB high speed host controllers installed on the PC).

The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H, and I have loaded all supplied drivers as instructed. The driver loading page on the installation CD required that XP SP2 is loaded for the USB ports to function, and I did this.

One other question; in the loading BIOS, the SATA HDD is displayed as IDE Channel 2 master. Have I missed something in the configuration, or is this normal??

Any help would be much appreciated!

(AMD AM2 3800+, 2Gb DDR2 Kingston, 500gbWD SATA HDD)

Go into the bios and look at what settings you have for usb. There should be at least 3 settings. Try changing that to Hi-Speed, I believe.

And a sata hd is acting like a ide is normal unless you set it differently in bios.

Thanks for the advice.
The only settings available in the BIOS that relate to USB either enable or disable the onboard controller- there is no option to set to low or high speed.

Make sure OnChip USB Controller is enabled, and USB EHCI Controller is enabled.

Beyond those two, I don't see anything else in the bios.

Make sure you installed the chipset drivers. Maybe get updated ones from gigabyte website.

Try installing the drivers again, as shadow suggests get the latest ones from the gigabyte site.

I've had this problem before, usually USB2 wont work unless the drivers are installed after SP2 itself.

And good call getting the SATA drive
