Help Judging new PC

I am looking to build a PC, I already have a case and fans and would like some feedback on what you guys think of this list and possibly what improvements could be made. I would like to keep it under $1000 and am looking for a computer that can run games but is not completely decked out to run them just has the ability.

Why are you getting a laptop hard drive for a desktop computer?

You really should use SATA drives instead of IDE/PATA.

Would look to a retail package for the DVD to get the burning software. And look to a different brand like Lite-On, Samsungs have been known to be not too good.

- The 9600GT 512MB is a great card for the price. I've got two and love them (though one is just fine also). XFX seems to get good reviews. However, I recommend EVGA as I use many of thier products and was very impressed with their programs and customer support.
- Just my thoughts... but 4GB of ram in a 2x2 package is not much more expensive these days. I recommend it just to ensure you get the maximum amount possible out of your system.
- Good choice on PSU (corsair is very good).
- Samsung is great for monitors... not for optical drives. I'd recommend a LITE-ON or a Pioneer.
- Go SATA across the board if you can.
- I'm an Intel guy... so I'm at a loss for advice on the CPU and Mobo.

Agree with others. Switch out HD for a 7200 SATA desktop drive. Change burner to Lite-on SATA retail, wait for more responses on the AMD aspect of the build.

Unless you have future plans for SLI get the less expensive single video slot version of the Asus board. The M2N-E is a good one.

With money you save there go for an AMD 6000/6400 X2 CPU.

I agree, get a Lite-On drive.
