Question on CPU
Im building a gaming computer and was deciding which Cpu to go with. Between the Quad phenom and the amd 6000+. The 6000+ is fast but does the phenom offer things that would be better for gaming?
Also Intel is not out of the question im just lookin for the best CPU for gaming not the extremes tho to much money =( |

For a mostly gaming PC, any middle to high end dual core CPU will do you fine. Quads are great for running a bunch of different things at once. And remember that the video card is the main part to consider with gaming rigs.

Intel still has the edge in performance but the new AMD offerings are getting close and AMD might have a better upgrade path. If going intel I would look at the E8400 for pure gaming. Like Flanzig said, if you are mainly gaming then any of the higher end rocessors (duel or quad) from either company will work just fine. They are all fast enough and it is more about the GPU than the CPU.
That does not really answer your question, have not built AMD lately so not sure about the performance difference between there quad and duel core offerings. Will have to wait for an AMD expert to stop by. Kat

You can't compare an Athlon to a Phenom just by clockspeed. First of all, the Phenom has 2 more cores. Second, the architecture is way different and will do different amounts of work per clock. I would be more inclined to go with the Phenom 9850. It would outperform the 6000+ in most if not all situations.
