New PC trouble

Hey all, great forums here. I recently ordered parts for a PC to build for a friend. After assembling everything, I connect it to the monitor and power it up. It starts up, the LED's glow, the blue-ray drive lights up, but there are no beeps from the on-board speaker, and there is no video connection available. The mouse and keyboard also do not turn on. Here's a listing of the important hardware.

Case/Power supply

Motherboard

Video card

Processor

RAM

HDD

Disk Drive

That's everything that is currently connected to the PC. Can anyone see a hardware conflict I may not have known about? The lack of initial beeping and the fact that the mouse and keyboard don't turn on leads me to think it may be the motherboard, but I'd be really grateful for your guy's opinions. Thanks!

From what I can tell, the CPU doesn't match up with the MOBO. You have a dual core processor on a motherboard that fits a core 2 duo processor.

I also dunno if the fact that the CPU has a 800 bus but the mobo has a 1066 bus will make a difference.

I also have heard sometimes you have to reset the BIOS on the motherboard sometimes. Try that first.

But, don't take my word on ANY of this I am not sure if i know what I am talking about.

Thanks for the response. I know you can put a processor with a larger FSB into a mobo with a smaller FSB, and it will work. I assumed it would work the other direction as well, but I could have easily been wrong. How do I reset the BIOS on the board if I can't get any kind of signal on the monitor?

Motherboard does support the E2180 CPU.
Try this toubleshooter. It is essential that the motherboard be removed from the case.
Next step would be get rid of the Raidmax PSU. Get a PSU from the good list in this thread.

Thanks, I appreciate the tips. If anyone else has advice, I'd like to hear everything I can before I head back over there tomorrow.

This is what I was referring to, if it helps at all in addition to what liambl mentioned:

Guy seems to know what he is talking about.

The situation you're seeing usually indicates the motherboard is shorting/grounding out to the case. Pull the motherboard out and try to get it to run out of case. Then check the motherboard mounting tray to be sure there are no stray standoffs installed...all standoffs that are in the case should line up to a mounting hole in the motherboard (the holes with the metal rings around them). Any stray standoffs should be removed.

And I agree with liambl...replace that RaidMax power supply ASAP, they're cheap low quality rubbish.

Everything works great, and it was none of the above. The motherboard required 3 separate power cables. 2 right next to each other, and one across the way behind the processor. :P Thanks again for the suggestions though, I'll definitely keep them in mind for next time.
