Smile new to the PC world...

I am thinking of buying a PC here pretty soon. I am making a switch from Mac, and it will be my first PC. Anyways, I need some recommendations on what PC laptop to get. I am mostly going to use my computer for internet, email, gaming, and word documents, maybe photoshop type things. Mostly I want a computer that can support those MMORPG games online. Someone recommended to me that if I wanted games I should get a 3G hard drive. I've looked at Toshiba notebooks and they are pretty affordable. I am looking to spend $$300-500 on a notebook.
Any suggestions?

First off, welcome to PcMech!

I think you should really head down to your local electronics store, depending on where you're from, Bestbuy or Futureshop and have a look around there. There sales rep should be able to help you out.

However, 300-500 dollars is a tight budget for a laptop. You won't get one that would really run those games smoothly. You should save up a little more and look at around $800 for a budget laptop.

Here are a couple of the game's system requirements:

CPU- Pentium III 1GHz or more or Pentium 4 1.8 GHz or more
Memory- 256MB or more or 512MB or more
Graphics- 64MB or more VRAM or 128 or more VRAM
Hard disk- 2GB or more
OS- Windows 2000 professional, Windows XP Home edition/professional ( not Windows XP pro x64 edition)
Misc. This requires DirectX9.0c
ADSL 1.5mbps or more
I think directx you have to download....

the other game is the same requirements except:
Graphics- 32MB or more VRAM
3D accelerator chip
Misc.- MS-IME

I hope that gives more detail on what I am looking for : )

The specs are fairly reasonable for the price. I and many others are not fans of Sony PCs. They tend to have poor web support.

Send a message via AIM to Alaron
I'd check the Dell Refurb outlet.

Yea I would shy away from the sony laptops. They may be nice but often they are overpriced. I think you should look towards dell or toshiba.

I also found this one it's a little cheaper. I don't want like the ultimate gaming laptop, just one that will simply run the online games, and game CD-ROMs.
Here is a Toshiba I found:
