Second Case Scenario!
I know I have my goofy Fight to the Death thread up, but now I'm wondering this. Should I build a semi-good $600-700 gaming rig, and just update later when games that need more support come out? I'm building a gaming rig in the first place because I want to play StarCraft2 and Diablo3. Should I build a sub-par rig and buy a cheap laptop, too, for college?

SC2 and D3 don't have very high graphics requirements, you could get by with a $700 machine but with the pieces you picked out so far it will be a bit more (I forget if you need a monitor or an OS).
I wouldn't get a laptop for school unless it's really required. I got a laptop and never really used it mobile-y, really regretted it and wish I just built a desktop in the first place. |

I don't know...I'm an engineer, so I was expecting to use the laptop around campus a lot but really didn't. It depends on your school and program though...best bet is to talk to someone in your major at your school and see what they think.
