Hello
I've been following byopc guide on pcmech, and I've come to the point to power up the PC. I've double checked everything, and it all seems connected and ready, but when I plug in the power and hit the power button nothing happens. ![]() I'm sure this is fairly common, but I've looked over everything and can't see where the problem lies, can anyone help a newbie? |

Welcome to PC Mech.
First, we need you to list the parts you're using. Make and Model. Also, is this in the case, or out of the case? If in, try to assemble it out of the case first. Have you plugged in all the connectors to the motherboard? Both a 24 and 4 pin?

The power is going to the GPU yes.
One thing I did wonder about was the Front Panel, where the power switch is. The instructions in the manual aren't very clear, conflicting actually. The instructions for the Motherboard say: [ +Power LED- ] [ +Power Switch- ] [ +Speakers- ] [ +HDD LED- ] [ -Reset+ ][ NC ] My Power LED clip is 3 pins long, where as all the others (except speakers) are 2. According the Mobo manual, the Power LED should fit in a 2 pin slot. The colours on the mobo itself correspond to the colours of wires, but the colours don't match as per the diagram above (in the manual) because the manual wants the Power LED, a 3 pin plug, in a 2 pin slot. If the power switch isn't set up right, the power button won't work will it?! Last edited by 7779311; 07-15-2008 at 12:33 PM. |

No, it wouldn't. But most of what you were discussing was the Power LED not being correct (I believe it should work with the 3-pin plugged into the 2-pin slot, orientation shouldn't matter), not the Power switch not being correct...?

Have you tried getting it to post outside the case?

There's no room for the 3pin to fit, it's two pins.
It looks like this [][] [][] [][][][] [][] [][][] So the 3 pin power switch should fit in the bottom row (the colour of the wire and on the board match), but the manual says Power LED is top left. Quote:

Looking at your mobo manual now, it looks to me like its set up like this
[2][4][6][8] [1][3][5][7][9] 1+3 -- Hard drive activity LED 2+4 -- Message/Power/Sleep LED 5+7 -- Reset Switch 6+8 -- Power Switch 9 -- NC 14+16+18+20 -- Speaker I'd take everything out but the power switch. Try it in both orientations to make sure. If that doesn't work I'd do the outside the case system that shadow linked. (Make sure you're looking at it the right way, that view is from the near edge of the mobo in) Last edited by vtfanmv5; 07-15-2008 at 01:06 PM. |

It worked! I just have the power switch plugged in per your diagram.
I will try plugging in the other ones shortly. I can't say how relieved I am!! Thank you very much for your help! |

Haha, good.
As for your Power LED (slots 2+4) I would just plug two of the pins in and leave the remaining pin hanging off the side. I'm not sure if orientation matters on that switch (I doubt it), but if it doesn't work switch it and try again. Good look with finishing up the build. |

I've put all the other switches back in now except for the power LED as there is no room (it's too wide with the 3 pins).
Thanks again.

To be on the safe side, what kind of power supply do you have?
I am very happy that your computer is now powered . I just want you to be sure its power supply isn't bad in the long run.*Just a newbie trying to help out another one , sorry for my un-professionalism.
