Fatal Error
Wanted to test my parts before assembly so I set the P5Q Deluxe on it's box and hooked up hdd, optical, psu, monitor and such. Pressed the power button on the mobo and the screen I was eventually presented with said something like...
New CPU Detected... Chassis Intrusion Detected! Fatal Error Has Occured! Turned it off, restarted and hit del to get into bios. Looked it over, didn't make any changes to the bios, restarted and all went fine and it got to the normal screen where it says something about insert cd and reboot or something like that. Went into bios several more times to look around, put in the XP cd to see if it would go through initial procedures for install and it did but I canceled it as I am not ready to do that. Anyhow the initial fatal error message didn't happen again except for that initial start up and I am hoping one of you can educate me as to why it would do that. There is no setting for the Chassis Intrusion setting in the bios but there is a jumper on the mobo and it is in it's default disable position. P5Q Deluxe E8500 Mushkin 2x 2GB RAM WD 640GB HDD Samsung Optical PC P&C 750w No wires from the case were hooked up as this was an out of the case test of parts.

I've had that happen to, and never figured out why. All settings that I knew of should have either disabled it, or just weren't present.
I chalked it up to just being one of those things. Wouldn't worry about it unless it happens after you have it in case.

Only thing I can think of is your mobo was previously tested with a different cpu than the one you're using. Is your cpu properly recognized? Is the bios version the correct one for use with that cpu? You can check the Asus site and look at the cpu compatibility chart for your mobo just to be sure. As long as everything runs correctly now, I wouldn't be too concerned about an initial glitch. This experience just emphasises why we suggest an out of case test before putting the entire pc together. Most folks would have encountered that error after a complete assembly and panicked! They would have no idea where to look for a solution.

Thanks guys. Yes Red, bios shows the CPU as E8500 3.16GHZ 3166MHz. I need to update the bios to current version which I am thinking of doing before installation of OS using Asus' EZ Flash method. Already downloaded latest version and unzipped it to a usb flash drive.
When that screen appeared I just thought "Well crap...this is what I get for jumping on the Asus bandwagon". Used MSI & Gigabyte in my first 3 builds with zero problems. But then I told myslef to relax and figure it out....or ask more intelligent people.
