Building my own Pc but i want some opinions

Hi all

ive decided to build my own pc but im after soem opinions as im stuck between a few products and cant decided which one to go for.

Ok lets start with PSU

Ive been looking at the corsair 650:

http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/tx.aspx

And ive been looking at the cool master 620

http://www.coolermaster.com/products...ate=22&id=2573

Now im edging towards the coolmaster but i havent had an expseriance with coolmaster but a friend has a corsair and he said it is very good. now the corsair is more powerful but the coolmaster is modual i dont think the power will make that much diffrence but i want you opinion.

Now ive been looking at a hard drive i was looking at a single 250gb seagate hard drive but then someone said to be to get 2 250gb hard drives but i can get a 500gb hardd rive for less money so which do you think i should go for just one 250gb hard drive or 2 250's? or just the one 500?

Sorry to be asking so much but this is my first build and im so unsure i dont want to waste my money on rubbish.

Now my next querey is CPU ive been looking at a Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 775 socket 2.66ghz fsb 1333 6mb cache

Then someone recomened me..

Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz S775

So again in your opinions which would be best its going to be used for gaming.

Get the Corsair...much better quality than the Cooler Master. To me, modular wiring is a none issue. I'd rather use a PSU without modular wiring.

I'd get a 160GB HDD and a 320GB HDD because I prefer to use multiple hard drive instead of just one big one. I keep my important data saved to the secondary hard drive and just install the OS and programs to the main hard drive. That way if the main hard drive goes down I still have all my data on the secondary hard drive. Of course I back up all my important data to external hard drives...just in case.

For gaming, I'd get the E8200. But if you do a lot of multi-tasking (real multi-tasking, not just having a bunch of programs open but doing nothing) then I'd go with the Q6600. For gaming the faster E8200 would be a better choice.

Hi cricket

Thanks very much. You have been a great help i just needed someone to tip me the right way pay day tommorow hehehehehehehehehehehe

My other quiry is the mother board can someone recomend me a mother board for around 50 to 120 ish GBP with a 775 socket 1333fsb As im a little unsure as the saying goes a chain is only as strong as the weakest link and i dont want a good psu good graphics good ram etc etc etc but then have a rubbish motherboard to go with it.

This build is my first and i have done very little with pc before hand in turms of building the most ive done is use a hole saw to drill some fans into the side of my current pc case put some warpping around the wires, installed a fan controller and some cold cathode lights.

We recommend Asus motherboards. The P5Q series is a good option: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145751

Hi thanks

Ive been on asus's website to look at the board anda few spec and and the photo. And looking at it it can run two graphics cards which is a nice feature but ideally i dont really want to run two graphics cards i would preffer to have the space to run other things as i have a tv card to go in it and i canonly see on plug for that. all of the other features i love i really like the exsternal sata and the two etenet sockets but ideally ide like more space fr otehr accesories.

Ok ill come out and admit it now i dont know the name of the white sockets of the mother board where thign such as tv cards etc plug into.

Check out the Asus P5Q-E instead. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145747

That model adds dual ethernet and eSATA.

It has 2 PCI slots for extras.

What does having two Ethernet plugs do for you? Does that mean like... I can have two cords plugged in for super fast internets? Or does it just act like a router where I plug one into the modem and one into another computer?

@ Ashley: What video card have you decided on for your build?

Superior performance. It easily outperforms the ~$250 GeForce 9800GTX

I need to like, copy and paste my HD 4850 rant. Basically, it out performs the 8800 GT by 50-70% while costing the same. It's just vastly superior. You don't need to be afraid of ATI anymore; they really stepped up their game with these new cards.
