Computer not posting
When I turn on my computer absolutely nothing happens. No fans, no beeps. It had been working fine up until this morning when this happened. I followed the instructions in this thread and apparently I have defective component. However, my mobo, has a small led which lights up when the power is connected. This makes me think that both PSU and the Mobo are still working fine. Is that a valid assumption? I think the defective component might be CPU but I don't have a simple way of verifying that.
Any tips or advice? |

The power supply may be able to light an LED but still be unable to boot the board. That would be the first item to swap for troubleshooting.
What are you specs?

CPU: E8400 (3.0ghz)
PSU: 750W Corsair RAM: G.Skill 2GB (1066mhz) Mobo: list in first post HD: WD 640 GB Asus ATI 4850 I might try using my brother's psu (it's from an old computer, e.g. 400W PSU I think) to test, but I have to eat now. |

When you were doing the troubleshooting steps in that tread, did you remove the motherboard from the case? You must remove the motherboard from the case because you're checking to see if the case is grounding/shorting out to the bottom of the motherboard.

I don't have an extra of any of these items, my brothers psu doesn't have an 8 pin connector that my mobo needs. I might try to find someone who has a computer similar to mine and see if I could try switching the pieces.
@Cricket: Yes, it's completely out of the case. |

Alright, I hooked up the psu to my brother's computer and it worked fine. So it's either the mobo or the cpu, right? I don't know if the little led on the mobo means that the entire mobo is working and I'm not sure how to check that. My brother's mobo is for amd so I don't think I can check much more on it.

The LED only shows that it is getting power, not that it is working. It is far more likely for the motherbaord to be faulty than the CPU.

That's kind of what I thought, because if the mobo was working the fans would still be getting power, correct?
Would the cpu being faulty prevent the system from posting and going into bios? |

2. Yes, the motherboard needs the CPU to process the boot up and POST. |
