Well first thing's first, don't get that video card. For real, it's a waste of money.
For a lot less money, you can get an HD 4850 which blows that thing out of the water, and is just better in every way. Or if you wish, you can get the HD 4870. I got one, it's basically amazing. You don't need a 300 dollar Mobo. An Asus P5Q would do you just fine. If this is for gaming I would say tone down the CPU a bit. The E8400 is more than adequate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 That power supply is also way too big. That's something you'd use if you're planning on running dual GTX 280's. A Corsair or PC Power and Cooling 650-750W would be more than enough. Get the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288 And umm... Yeah that's about it.

are the gtx 280's worth the money?
I really want a 45nm cpu to keep the heat down as I don't have an AC as a rarely need it, but still for those hot days. The big PSU is planing for the when I crossfire a graphics card. and thanks I didn't know that the 3870 x2 was bad. seemed good on paper new build list MoBo ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131299 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115043 HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288 PSU APEVIA WARLOCK POWER ATX-WA1100W 1100W ATX12V http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148037 RAM CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184 Graphics Card MSI R4850-T2D512 Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127359 OS Windows Vista home premium 64bit |

Well where Crossfire is concerned, here at PCMech most would strongly recommend against using two video cards, and instead suggest just a single more powerful card on the basis that it's usually cheaper and much more worth it, as support for dual video cards isn't all that high and is mostly unnecessary anyway.
The GTX 280s are really the current monolith super-cards. However, in less than a month, their price dropped from 650 to 450. And why is that? Because the HD 4870 competes with it while only costing 300 itself. If you have the extra money, I'd even say get the HD 4870. Great card. I have one and I couldn't be happier. Also, if you are to take our advice and opt out of using Crossfire, here are a couple PSU's that are worth looking into http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703009 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...corsair%2b650w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104015 |
