Question 1st build questions

this is going to be my first build for a computer. i worked in retail before and helped customers build them, but this is going to be my own first build, so i am a bit more cautios and just need assurance monstly that the components i have will work together and if i need any converters.

COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 case
msi k9a2 platinum motherboard
amd phenom 9850 black processor
msi rx3870x2 1gb graphics card
xclio stablepower 1000w power supply
corsair dominator 1066 ram
samsung sh-s204b cd/dvd drive
western digital caviar re2 wd5001abys hard drive
vista ultimate

the only one i thought i need a converter for is a pin converter for the graphics card, but i am not sure if i do or not. and i cannot find anything saying one way or the other. thanks in advance everybody.

I'm gonna take a random shot here and guess this is for gaming?

If so, I would suggest firstly that instead of the outdated 3870 X2, you pick up one of the newer HD 4870's. They perform better, cost just about the same, use less power, generate less heat, and are newer and better. Yeah.

Also for a motherboard, a lot of people here would recommend Asus or Gigabyte. They make high quality boards. However, I know little to nothing of AMD boards.

You don't need a Kilowatt PSU. And not from Xclio. A 650-750W from Corsair, FSP, or PC Power&Cooling will do you just perfectly.

Corsair Dominator is overkill. XMS2 or even any Corsair RAM would be fine. It'll be cheaper and the difference would be negligible. Also, 1066 isn't necessary. 800 is fine. Again, you wouldn't notice a difference except for the weight in your pocket.

And um. That's all I have to say.

Actually Xclio has some good units. They are also listed in the "Good" column of this forums PSU info thread. But agreed that Corsair and PC P&C are of higher quality.

xCilio used to make top notch PSU's back in the old 939 days. I always kinda wondered what happened to them.

thanks alot. you are correct in the assumption that this will be a gaming machine. i took a look at some of the other motherboards from asus and gigabyte. the reason i had stuck w/ the one i had was b/c it had 2 x eSata, it has crossfire support, and it won some award for overclocker's choice (more the last latter than the former). i did find a good asus but it only has 1 x eSata and costs $80 more. i might have to change ram now, b/c ironically newegg.com is out of the ram i had chosen before. lol. i also found a 750w psu from corsair that sounds a lot more appealing (i am not sure what attracted me to the other in the first place)

there was one gigabyte board (GIGABYTE GA-MA770-S3) that piqued my interest: it supports 16gb of ram! lol but does not have the 790fx northbridge.

i also got the newer graphics card. i chose the other b/c alienware had that one on there latest machine, but it was ddr3, so ddr5 sounds better
again thanks for the help.
