does it matter?

Hello guys can you please help me here.

I live in UK.
I have been reading posts in this forum on how to build computer. It’s very interesting as I really want to build my first PC… but what I have noticed is that the price of computer parts in UK is quite higher when compare to America. Now my question if I wanted to buy my parts from America is that going to make any difference?
For instance in computer’s performance etc…

Please advice me here.

Think this is the first 'Rip Off Britain' thread I've ever seen here. And, before you ask I'm from the UK too. I'll try and keep this simple.

Start with the parts or hardware - an Intel CPU will be an Intel CPU no matter which side of the 'pond' you purchase it. Only thing you need to consider when buying electricals is that we Brits use different plugs and voltages compared to the rest of the world; so if you were thinking of getting a monitor from USA then make sure you can change plugs.

Don't forget in the UK prices should have VAT (Value Added tax @ 17.5%) added or at least state you need to add it to the over-all final price in the USA their version of VAT or Sales Tax isn't always added to the final price and it isn't always the same value. So, what you see isn't always what you pay.
And, finally you'll have to consider the fact that you are importing into the UK and might be subjected to pay taxes on all goods.

And, what will you do if you need to return any goods purchased?

Stick with buying the parts in the UK. The advantages far out weigh the possible money savings.

if you're stuck for good sites to buy from then let me know and I'll post a few.

Cool Negeva

Your post was really informative; you have opened my eye in a way.
I did not consider those factors…well I would love to have that website where I can buy my parts ( PC) from.

Personally, I avoid Dabs like the plague; ever since BT (yes, the telephone ppl) took them over their customer service and returns policy have been somewhat lacking. Overclockers can be a tad expensive on some stuff too.

When buying from ebuyer.com the free postage is only available if you select it from the drop-down menu: it is a 5 day service too!

Also, check out the following;

aria.co.uk
cclonline.com

Aria are based in just outside of Manchester and run daily specials - last week I got a 1Tb Hitachi hdd for 80 quid!
CCLonline are based outside of Leeds. Been dealing with them for about 6 or 7 years now and never had any problems. The chaps really know their stuff.
If you're in London check out http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/
