Case Speaker
I can't find where the speaker cable (has 4 pin connection) from the case plugs into the motherboard. Is this normal? I have looked at the MB manual and physically looked at the MB itself.
MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128090 Is the case speaker responsible for making the beeps? I dont hear any beeps when I turn it on, even though everything boots properly. Do I need the case speaker? |

You don't need the case speaker, but it's useful for diagnostic purposes. If things go wrong at boot, the speaker will give you a beep code relevant to the problem. There should be a single beep if everything is working correctly, but obviously you won't hear this if you haven't connected a speaker.
It usually connects to the pins of the front panel header - the same place you connect the LEDs and power/reset switches to. Check your motherboard manual for position and polarity.

Also, your motherboard may not have the pins on the mobo, but that would completly depend on how on how old the mobo is or what country its from, i may also be wrong, and as freakitchen said, the beeps are only for the diagnostics and beebs once if correct and constantly if erroe, i just find it annoying when you cant figure out whats wrong!

Some mobo's (like my Intel) don't have a case speaker connection since there is "speaker" (for beeps) on the mobo itself. But ... since yours doesn't beep ... hmmm.

mattaggie, I downloaded your motherboard manual and looked - the speaker connection is indeed part of the front panel header, detailed on p27 of the PDF I downloaded. It's a four pin connector but only the outer two pins are used.
@XenaWP, Intels are the only boards I've seen recently with the speaker built in. Motherboards sometimes come with an attachable piezo speaker, but you see that less these days. |

thanks. I found it with the front header like you said. So now I get the annoying single beep, but I find it strangely comforting. thanks for the help.
