new build read the new thread about out of case test and no video

Well we put together the motherboard as instructed in a thread posted on this web site, and ran into trouble. We put the motherboard on the box as instructed an installed the CPU, RAM, Video card, hooked up the power supply as instructed.

We then plugged in the keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and when we jumped the two power connectors it powered up the heat sink fan on the CPU and lit up a green light on the motherboard, that indicates in the manual that he power is connected correctly.

The monitor did display an analog signal box that just floated around on the screen as if it were not getting a signal, so we never got the bios screen. That’s when we powered down and wrote this post please give some advice and help as to what to look for and what to try next. Below is the parts we are working with so far.

M/B: Asus M3N-hd/hdmi nForce 750a SLI Socket AM@=MB
http//www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3872562&sku=A455-2406&srkey=a455-2406

Processor: Amd Phenom X# 8450 2.1 Ghz 3.5MB Scoket AM@=CPU
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...y=cp2-am2-8450

Cooling: Thermaltake Ruby orb CPU Cooler for AMD or Intel
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...rkey=t925-2032

Memory : Corsair TWINX 3062 PC 6400 ddr2 800 MHz
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...srkey=c13-2022

PSU: OCZ/StealthXStream/600 watt/ATX 129mm fan/ SATA-ready/PCIe Ready/Active PFC
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...557&CatId=1483

Video cards: (2) XFX GeForce 8600 Gt XXX 256MB PCIe w/Duel DVI ( Don’t know if it needs its own power supply, no cable came with it and there is no instruction referencing one in the manual it came with)
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...rkey=p450-8650

Standard Keyboard, stole it from a another comp in a bedroom so I know it works same with he mouse.

Monitor is a Samsung 19 inch flat screen with DVI hookup
Soon as we get past this problem we will install all parts in case. We did see an updated out of case build and followed it, but we didn’t seems to do anything wrong, unless we didn’t hook up additional power to the video card and we can’t find any reference we need to?

Do you have both the 24pin ATX power and the 2x2 square power connections in place on the motherboard?

Your video cards don't need extra power. Try booting the system with just one at a time if you're not already.

The square connector is behind the keyboard/usb ports on the board.

You should put the RAM in the first DIMM to start. But you can try others.

Ok, now that the power connections are in place and it still doesn't boot, you'll need to swap parts in and out to determine what component is not working.

Try each video card individually in the first PCI-E slot. Try each stick of RAM individually in each DIMM slot.
Then try to borrow another power supply.

Let us know.

According to your motherboard manual, you must have both power connections for the system to boot. If it won't I would try another power supply.

power supply

If I have the power supply that I bought and plug both the main ATX power plug and the 2x2 in the ATX 12v then it wont even power up the board. If I unplug the 2x2 it powers up but if i try to plug it in while its runnung it shuts down the whole deal? Will try a new power supply.

So what you are saying is, you first plugged the 2x2 pin next to the big ATX plug? If you did, thats putting 12 volts into a 3.3 volt circuit, I'd say the motherboard is toasted.
