New Build, Advice needed.
Hello.
I am currently buying new parts from the UK Supplier Novatech, my budget is around £850+/- or $1,690 for the americans out there. Case - Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Black Aluminium Case With Window No PSU Main Drive - LiteOn DH-20A4P-05C - 20X DVDRW - DVD-RAM - Black - IDE - With Nero - OEM Graphics Card - BFG GeForce 9800 GTX OCX 512MB GDDR3 TVO/Dual DVI, PCI Express Retail Memory - Corsair XMS6400 4GB DDR2 (2x2GB) 800Mhz Non-ECC Mobo - Asus Maximus Formula x38 1333FSB Socket 775 DDR2 1066 Support SATA Raid GBLan PSU - Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU Processor - Intel Quad Core Q6600 95Watt G0 Stepping ~ 4 x 2.40Ghz 8Mb Cache 1066 FSB Quad Core Processor HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA II 7200rpm 32Mb Cache 11ms 300Mb/s Hard Drive OEM - Windows Vista Home Premium http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Wi...7162910&sr=8-3 I was hoping to buy a 9800GT however with only the GTX out and nVidia releasing all new cards I am so confused on what to get, Power Supply was £80 which I thought was a little expensive since it suddenly raised in price by £20 was £60 so opened to suggestions for new PSU to support system. Not sure whether to get the new Maximus Formula II any opinions? And finally is the OEM available any cheaper anywhere else other than Amazon.co.uk its £70 at the moment. Open to new suggestions and comments. Thankyou for your time.

Everything looks good.
My suggestion is to check out the Radeon HD 4870. Less quid for better performance: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?SAP-4870

In NewEggs policies it states that they dont ship internationally as of yet, do you know whether this will change in the near future everything seems to be just that little cheaper over there.

Agree with Alaron on vid card, check out the 4800 series from ATI, more bang for the buck at the moment. Would suggest going SATA for the burner, most newer boards have only one IDE port and it is not native to the chipset. Dont really know much about that MB. Most here would recomend the P5Q (or older P5K) as the MB of choice on an intel system.
As for newegg I doubt they will change, they have never shipped international. Kat

What do you guys think to the new GTX 260 is there anything to them like worth the extra 50 - 150 quid from the mid ranges to 9800GTX is there noticeable difference or significant future proof factors.

Get the Radeon HD 4870 though. It performs ~6% better than the GTX260 and is cheaper. |

For gaming, you really cant have too much video card so it all comes down to what you can afford. The 4850 is probably the most bang for the buck right now. It will play just about everything on decent settings. The GTX 260 is a nice step up but as mentioned above the 4870 is a better deal right now. Same or better performance for less cash. There are better cards still, like the GTX 280 and the soon to arrive 4870X2 but at the top end you pay a big price for what amounts to a low to moderate increases in performance.
I personally like buying at the sweet spot (I am cheap!) and then upgrading more often with the cash I have saved keeping the system current. But if you want to go longer without an upgrade you might want to spend a bit more up front. Kat |

I really want a future proof pc that will last a while, but I am just worried with the new Intel Nehalem coming out with a whole new cpu socket and various other items that it will soon be outdated bearing im buying next week.
What do you guys think? Rob. |

If you keep waiting for the next thing, and always want the latest and greatest, then you're never going to buy, or will always be upgrading.
If you want it now, then get the best you can now. If you can wait, and aren't in a rush, then wait and see where things go.
