Time to upgrade my back up or second computer. I have the following from the old system or left over from upgrades to my main computer that I intend to re-use.
8800 GTS 320. 2 x 1 GB Corsair DDR2 ram (800) 250 GB Seagate SATA HD. Antec mid tower ATX case Antec ATX 2.0 500w PSU Sony DVD burner (IDE) Want to do this very cheap but still end up with a computer that can play most newer games so was thinking about the following new MB and processor: ASUS P5KPL-CM LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131288 Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E7200 - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115052 the two of those will be around $200 or so. So now the questions. Is there a better MB that is similarly priced? I don’t really need on-board video this mobo just seemed to have better reviews than the stripped down P35 boards. For a low cost system should I be looking at even a lower processor? My current rig is running a E6750 but I don’t think I have any need currently to upgrade this to get a hand me down, so was figuring on just buying a lower in processor for the re-build. Kat

That combination of motherboard and CPU would be my usual recommendation for a low priced, yet still powerful system. I would stick with it.

for just a few more bucks you could walk with
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018 and later down the line do http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106117 But thats just me , Otherwise your setup should be fine to play mostly anything : ) |

I looked at the 6600, not for the back up computer, but to replace the 6750 in my main box then use the 6750 in the back up. However, the computer is a gamer and I dont think changing the processor to a quad would really give me any benefit. It might actually slow it down unless I went for an OC which I see you are suggesting by the after market cooler. If I was buying today I would probably go with an E8400 but to be honest I dont think the 6750 needs to be replaced yet, at least I have not reached the point that I think the cpu is bottlenecking the system.
