okay, iv been looking around and i cant decide what to get in terms of parts, but i have some parts that i think will work
cpu: intell core 2 quad q6600 (iv heard you can overclock it to 4/16ghz with dry ice) OR amd phenom quad core 9550 (the one thats 8.8ghz) motherboard: depends on the proccesor, ideally with pci-e expansion, integrated hd sound, and space for 8gb ram (i may add extra ram ina few years) memory: 2 sticks of 2gb 1066 mhz ram hard disk 250gb sata 7200 rpm opctical drive: i will salvage from old pc GPU: ati radeon hd 4850 power suppy: how much do i need? case: no idea, need help on this one cooling system: dry ice i would try, but im not sure how to make a stystem like that, i would try mineral oil if it didnt leak into the parts and cause a pain to clean out i already have a monitor and the rest of it, so im not listing them Last edited by benxx; 08-04-2008 at 04:15 AM. |

I'd go for the Q6600 over those 2. The AMD doesn't run at 8.8GHz lol.
For motherboard look at the ASUS boards and see what features you want and how the price goes. Would recommend getting that memory from Corsair. You can get a better buy for the HD as £ to the GB goes, look at a Seagate 500GB with the 32MB cache. Is your old DVD drive SATA? Heard the 4850 is good but i'd still look at nVidia. 9800GTX seems pretty popular at the minute. For power supply you can refer to the General Hardware forum and look at good and bad PSU makes. I'd recommend Corsair or Seasonic but you could go cheaper with FSP or Antec. They are still good If you are planning on overclocking that far then i'd say 600w + to give you some headroom.Case is a personal choice. I like the Antec 900. I know it is possible to go about dry ice cooling, but I wouldn't bother. Create your own custom water cooling set up, Swiftech do some great gear. You'll need: - Reservoir (with built in pump is good, you can get ones which go in your drive bay. Make sure it has a good LPH - litres per hour) - Radiator - Tubing inc. connectors and clips etc. - CPU water block - GPU water block (if you decide to do graphics aswell) Think thats it. Edit: I see your in England so would recommend www.novatech.co.uk for the most part. www.overclockers.co.uk has a good range if you are interested in doing a custom water cooling set up.

I agree with most of that, but I'd stick with the Radeon 4850.
