Final Quick Questions
Alright, I've drawn a map of every pin, card, and cable in my computer, so that I won't forget anything when I'm putting it in my new case.
I just have a few random questions about small details, so I don't kill myself during assembly. :P 1. First off, I was seeing what cables went where, and to see them better, I took out my PCI sound card. When I turned Windows back on, my sound card didn't work. I uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers, so everything was OK. But then I thought, "What if I took out my video card? Would the card not work next time?" I would fear this happening, as the video card wouldn't work, and then I'd be screwed because I wouldn't be able to see anything. Was that a fluke? Do cards uninstall themselves when I disconnect them for just like 10 seconds? I know that the computer is off and unplugged, but the mobo still has that button battery keeping it on.... 2. My new case has fans that use a perpherial power cord (The big 4 pin ones). I don't really care, since I will have enough of those to make them work, but I was curious.... the mobo is attached to the fans in my current case, and supplies power... but it also controls when it's on/off. I put in an old mobo to test it, and it sounded like they were always on. I just don't want my computer to overheat >> 3.The 4 pin power connecter on one of the fans... one of the pins is loose. I found an extender for it, and pushed the pin in very tight. It felt and looked like all the other pins. Is this ok? I didn't realise the pins were really the only part of it... the plastic is just to hold them. I thought it was more intracitly designed. Like I said, I just want to be sure before I push the power button, and possibly fry my rig... Well, I have the manual for the mobo, and have written out every pin that came from the case. My final question is 4. How do I kill nervousness without paying someone else to do it? lol :P |

Not sure what was gong on with your sound card. Generally, it's not a problem to remove and reinstall any card.
If your fans only connect to the PSU, they will always be on. You cannot control them through any software or the BIOS. Not sure what case you have, but I know with the Antec900 the fans work that way, and there are 3-speed controllers on the cords. So you would have to open up the computer to change the fan speed. Plug the broken pin into the PSU. If it doesn't work, you'll have to either RMA the case or call the manufacturer and see if you can just get a new fan or a new connector. That wouldn't fry your computer. As for the nervousness...hm, I don't know. Get someone to help you, whether they know anything about computers or not. It can be frustrating standing there trying to figure out what to do with nobody to help or talk to (you'll be fine though, it's not that hard). |
