USB Device Over Current Status Detected

"USB Device Over Current Status Detected. pc will shut down in 15 seconds."

got this message along with "no keyboard detected" after building my pc. now after trying a few things i googled like taking out usb devices and a stick of ram i re- installed the ram after no success and theres no power what-so-ever. to be honest i installed the ram in the wrong slot the second time and then switched it and still nothing.

any suggestions???

thanks.

Can you please list make and model of all parts.

Do you have any peripherals plugged in?

Have you installed the motherboard drivers?

Have you enabled usb support in the bios?

Take out the wintv card.

Is your keyboard a usb keyboard? If so, try a ps/2 one.

No peripherals, no drives other then the main hard drive and cd drive.

Either there is a short, or the case door isn't on, and you have a mb that has a case intrusion error or something.

Did you install the standoffs in the case before the motherboard?

Double check all the connections.

i left some standoffs off the case this time in case the mobo was geting grounded on the tower. i put the standoffs on first. just the 4 corners. boths side of the tower were left off since the beginning. should i try using masking tape as like washers in between the standoffs, the screws and the board??? should i tighten the sliding wall the mobo is on to the rear of the case like as if it were all installed and tightened up???

thanks shadow...

i guess it's the ps2. it's the one with the color coded circular plug and it doesn't work at any time. i haven't done anything to the pc yet like loading software including windows vista or the cd that cam with the mobo. can't do anything without a keyboard detected....

for some reason it worked before, when i had everything hooked up outside of the tower so i don't think it's the keyboard. plus i don't have another other than a usb one...lol.

Can't hurt to try the usb one.

Not sure why the ps/2 one wouldn't work though.

yes, pc working good except the mouse moving from left to right only.

no, my old one was connected. it's dead. i want to connect new one where old one was. there are other pc's in the house running of router so connection is definately still up and running. the new pc will be plugged in through usb connection. the new one says i need updated drivers when i try and connect. curious if i need to do anything to the new pc to prep for internet access???

If you have a router, you should just be able to connect the computer to the router with cat 5 cable.

As long as you installed the motherboard drivers (which includes the network driver), then you shouldn't have to do anything else.

Two things: What size monitor, and what resolution do you have it at? Set it at it's max.

Second thing is: Try the buttons on the monitor. They should have either a refresh, an dadjust, or a setting that will help you shrink the screen as well as center it.

The correct and newest drivers should help.

I have no idea what the resolution would be though for view on a 32" tv. Someone else might have to chime in on that.

I think mine's 1366x768. Probably varies by brand. I'd just google ' "your TV's product id" maximum resolution'
It sounds like you hit the Ratio button on your tv remote, though (switched it to one of the Zoom modes).
