First time boot up and nothing on monitor...HELP!
Hi guys, this is my first build and I'm having a problem. My mobo DS3L gigabyte, does not have any onboard video. I have an HD4850 graphics card physically installed on the mobo. I hooked my LCD monitor to the DVI port on the graphics card. When I turn on the computer, all the fans work, it sounds like it's loading, but I can't get any picture. This is where I am confused. Don't I need to install an operating system on my computer before my graphics card will be detected and work? The problem is, I can't see what's going on in order to install an operating system. The monitor also has a VGA connection and I tried that also with the adaptor, but still I get no picture. I have the power cord connected to the graphics card. I have a 500w liberty enermax PSU. Please help!
Thanks. Last edited by Orcus332; 08-07-2008 at 11:19 PM. |

So get this, I started unpluggin my CD drive and HDD as well as checking all wires to make sure they were connected. But what worked is when I took the memory out, switched the two sticks with eachother (slot 1 to 3, then slot 3 to 1). The computer magically began outputting to my monitor! If anyone knows why this happened please give me your ideas, I even tried just 1 stick of memory but I kept getting a long persistant error beep.
