Old Computer Problem
I finally put my current computer in my new case, leaving my old one empty. All I needed at this point was a case, I had my old AGP8x motherboard, a stick of DDR400 ram I ordered from newegg, an old PSU, a couple of CD and floppy drives. The processor/heatsink etc were already on the motherboard.
I put it all together. When I press the power button, here's what happens: It sounds like it starts up normally, fans go, CD lights flash, etc.... but I don't get any video. I can hear the procc working, and the HDD led is on. Then it turns itself off. The monitor says "Computer entering sleep mode" when it's on for that breif period. I don't really know what to do here. The HDD is old, and has an old OS (Windows 98), but I can't even get to the BIOS. I put the RAM in both slots, which didn't change anything. I used to have a video card in it, but I gave it to a friend when I got my PCIE. I had no use for it, and he miraculously had an AGP8x slot. I know that you have to set the computer to either use onboard or the PCI slots for the video, but the computer won't even turn on. It has a VGA socket on the motherboard, so I'd assume it would have video. Can the computer go into the BIOS without ram? I don't think it's bad, it's a brand new Kingpin. Suggestions/comments? Thanks for replies. |

What motherboard do you use? Some have sleeper jumpers and if you put the power connection on the sleeper jumpers it would turn it on and go straight to stand by.

Unfortunatley, the computer shop person built a computer for me a long time ago. He didn't give me the manuals to anything, so I have no idea what it is. I looked all over the motherboard, I couldn't find a name (Probably missed it :P) It's about two years old... is that feature relativley new? What do these jumpers look like? If you're talking about the 300 different random pins all over the motherboard, what should it say by it? The writing is very tiny, but if you can give me a general name of what it would say, I'll try to find it and see if I can change it. Thanks for the info, I didn't know that even existed. |

I just googled the site, and found the manual. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...nuID=7&LanID=0 So, what pin or jumper could the problem be? |
