Super low budget futureproof gaming build.

My only gripe with my Del 8400 is the old Pentium 4 bottlenecks the 7800GT I have now, let alone the card Im thinking of putting in this build, and of course the Dell mobo doesnt support any multicore processors nor will another non Dell mobo fit to where I could salvage the case and PSU. : ( This is my absolute first build, all Ive ever done is put in RAM, a HD or a card.

MOBO- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157130

SATA 300G HD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288

4 Gigs Corsair RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184

Rosewill 500W PSU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182016

Q6600 Intel CPU(The major money sink, but a damn good value if I understand correctly)-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018

Rosewill CASE-(My buddy suggested a Lian Li case but there is simply no way I can fit it into the budget)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147059

EVGA 8800 GT VIDEO CARD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130319

Lite On DRIVE- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072

What odds and ins like connectors/paste/fans am I forgetting about and would you mind posting newegg links to those items? Im salvaging speakers/monitor/keyboard/mouse/OS from the Dell.

If you have any suggestions Im open, but I can't go over a 750$ shipped budget. I didn't check to see if I have mobo/case issues or the like. Thanks for any help!

You're much better off with a Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. Don't know much about that mobo.

You will not be able to use the OS that came with the DELL. Unfortunately that means spending another $100 or go Linux if you want free. One thing to lower the price some is go with 2gb of RAM for now. It is plently for most people. If you find you need more, you can buy it later when you have the money.

Rosewill power supplies are of low quality, if you want a good quality power supply for around the same price and wattage of the rosewill, take a look at coolermaster power supplies.

There is no such thing.........

as futureproof.

This would be better:

Wolfdales are highly overrated POC. You don't need a Quad for gaming.

Get a 4GB kit if you use VISTA.

Great drives.
Last but not least.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703005

The rest is up to you.
Lite On has the best optical drives.
You need a good case. There are some really good ones by ANTEC and COOLERMASTER available for less than $100. Use some Scythe 120s for case ventilation. They're good.
Get a floppy too. They are only 6 bucks and they are still the best way to update a BIOS.
I think that covers the main hardware.
I forgot to add that there is really no such thing as a budget gaming rig unless you just plan on playing SIMMS or DINER DASH.
Save up a few more dollars and really build one.
Good luck.

I have a copy of XP so thankfully that wont be a problem.

Futureproof might have been a strong word to use- I just want a PC that I wont get trapped by a component like the processor has me tied up in the Dell.

Thanks for the Coolermaster suggestion, Ill definitely take your advice. Could anyone suggest a better case if that one is so horrible?

eh? The e8500 is 10$ cheaper, faster stock (and I'd assume faster OC with the higher multiplier), with a larger cache The same speed e8400 is 30$ cheaper. Right? Am I missing something?

Yea, the wolfdale also consumes less power due to the 45nm tech

If you don't plan on overclocking the they stock heat/fan is sufficent, plus you won't voild your warratny.. As for case look at the Antec Sonita III or the Antec 900 which is the one I use..

I'd say

Case: Antec Sonata III 500

Mobo: Asus P5Q Pro

Video Card: Sapphire HD4850

CPU: E8400 Wolfdale

RAM: Mushkin 2GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB

CD/DVD Drive: Whatever Lite-on you want

That should be about 750$$
