AMD internet build.
My moms 4 year old Dell is about to die and she's looking at getting a faster computer. This is mainly for browsing the internet and such things. We don't seem to have many AMD enthusiasts around here as we used to, but hopefully someone can help me out here.
I have a copy of XP, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and I think a case. Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128090 Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146118 Mushkin DDR2-800 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136218 WD 640gb PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371019 Antec Basiq 500w DVD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106265 Lite-ON DVD-burner. CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103210 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ My main questions are this: Good PSU? I don't know much about entry level PSU's really. Anyone know of a cheaper one? Should I stick with that CPU? Maybe go higher or lower? Anyone have experience with the tri-core AMD's? Total is about $379 so far, which is excellent. Thanks for any input.

Antec Basiqs are solid units. Looks like a fine list to me.
Does she need such a large hard drive?

Mm well I was gonna trade the WD for my computer and give her my Seagate 7200.10 320gb since I'm running low on space.
Anyone know what the "sweet spot" AMD cpu is? Don't really have a budget, other than it needs to be quite peppy. Still, only office/internet apps. |
