need new MB & CPU and I clueless

Gonna rebuilt my PC from scratch, got about $900. newest thing I have that might reuse would be video card--NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT but could upgrade that too if needed. I play lots of music, use lots of memory for that and Pictures, use PhotoShop for editing for a web page, and audio for a webpage. I want a MB with PCIe and be able to have whatever else is available as upgrade for music/tv etc.. I don't plan on another upgrade for a long time. As far as a processor some say go with a Quad and others say they don't work well with some of the MB? And what the heck can WIFI do For Me? And how Big Wattage Power supply do I need? ALL help Appreciated..

Moved this to BYOPC.

Here is a basic list to start with. Should fit into your budget.

Asus P5Q Motherboard
Intel E8500 or Q6600 CPU
2 or 4 GB DDR2-800 Corsair
500GB Seagate 7200.11 Hard Drive
ATI Radeon HD4850 Video Card
Corsair 650w Power supply
LiteOn DVD Burner
Case of your choice.

Motherboards with Wifi mean you can use them for a wireless network without any additional network card.

Thanks for the info. The Asus P5Q hard to find on newegg and tigerdirect is there an upgrade to that one? Did you pick Corsair because it's a good brand or because of compatability?

P5Q: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131295

Corsair power supplies are good quality power supplies.

SO far the Reviews on the Asus P5Q stinks, everyone having trouble with them. So I checked out the Intel X38BT which is a 775 core 2 extreme, with SATA, 8gb DDR3 it don't like XP and constantly reboots itself.
Anybody got any other good ones I could look at? Want PCIe, USB, Audio, SATA, DO websites with video and Photo editing. Not a gamer but ports to upgrade if needed.

If you don't want the P5Q, then you can try the P5K.

P5Q hard to find on Newegg??? ---> click here or just type "ASUS P5Q" into the Newegg search box.

Some of the early reviews of the P5Q boards (this is a new board by ASUS by the way using the new P45 chipset) were not that great due to early BIOS versions. The latest BIOS has everything running peachy. It's a fantastic board. Most of the reviews I read were from when the board was first released a few months ago and almost all of those reviews said it will be a fantastic board once ASUS releases a better, more stable BIOS. Well BIOS 0803 was released last month and all is well in P5Q land.

You would only need to go for X38 or X48 board if you plan on running two video cards in Crossfire mode. But most here would recommend not doing Crossfire, or SLI for that matter, and instead just running the best single card you can afford. In this case a P45 board is your ideal choice at this moment.

I actually found them after the post, but thanks!
I've been looking at the P5Q Deluxe but don'e see any PCIe slots?? don't you need those? I couldn't upgrade the video card I have now very much because I don't have a PCIe slot.

Yes. It has 2 PCI Express (PCI-E) 2.0 x16 slots. But when running two video cards in Crossfire, they operate at x8/x8. This is why it's better to go for a X48 board if wishing to do Crossfire as they will run the cards at x16/x16. It doesn't sound like you are wanting to do Crossfire so the P5Q Deluxe would be a great choice although maybe a bit overkill for you if you don't plan on overclocking. I have this board in my latest build.

You could save some $ and go for the "Pro" or "E" version.

The memory on the video card is completely seperate from what the motherboard takes.

If the mb takes ddr2, you can still use a video card with ddr3, or ddr4, or ddr whatever.

Yeah don't worry about the type of memory that the video card has. Any PCI-E x16 or PCI-E 2.0 x16 card will work on that motherboard. Some latest cards to consider

As far as memory goes then 2GB of DDR2 800 would be good. If your going to be using Vista and gaming then 4GB might be a consideration. Some memory to consider
