First build, i don't have much knowledge on hardware and such
Hello forums,
I wanted to get a new computer but looking at much information on the internet seems to be a much bteer idea to build it myself but I'm not sure what parts to get. I play games like world of warcraft, some fps games and i will be getting red alert 3 and things along those lines. I'll be using my monitor / speakers / keyboard / mouse. My budget is around 1300-1600 and i live in canada so getting parts from the US should not be a problem. So I need a new case and evrything that goes inside could someone enlighten me on what i should get for great performance and visuals. I'll probably get windows vista 64bit and Intel processor and 4gb of memory but I just want to be sure everything is compatible. Thank you for your time |

As a start:
Mother board: Asus P5Q CPU: E8400 Ram: Corsair 2x2gb ddr2-800 D: Seagate 7200.11 500gb sata DVD: Lite-on dvd burner sata retail video: 4850 PSU: Corsair 650 You can price that out, and see what it comes out to from canadian vendors. And then get a case that you like.

I looked around on newegg.com and will probably get all of the stuff from there if they ship to Canada, don't see why they wouldn't .
So I made a list of the stuff I'd need from your advice and got this so far : ASUS P5Q-E LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail (159.99 motherboard) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131296 Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail (169.99 CPU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail (114.00 RAM) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145176 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (79.99 hard drive) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288 LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe - Retai (31.99 dvd) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072 DIAMOND 4850PE3512 Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail (189.99 video card) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814103060 NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail (79.99 case) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146025 CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CE, CB, TUV, FCC, CCC - Retail (109.99 power supply) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD - OEM (109.99 OS) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116488 Rosewill RTK-001 Premium Anti-Static Wrist Strap - Retail (3.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16899261001 So with that I'm guessing I've got everything I need to build my new computer but I still got a couple of questions. Is this all I need to build it? I'm using my monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard and my wireless internet antenna. Is all this hardware compatible with one another? Did I miss any key component to building my tower? Thanx in advance for your time. |

Just as an example, get this ram instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184 It should be cheaper.
If you want onboard wifi, look at the p5k-e/wifi. Otherwise, the p5q that you picked is good. |
