called a "professional"

im almost ready to order online for my parts but ive been debating weather or not i have the brainpower to see this thing threw. plus i dont have any spare parts to test for faulty components.

so i decided to call a place around where i live.

i asked the guy if they could build it for me and he said it would be a hundred bucks. it would be 2 hours to construct it and the rest of the day to install the operating system. i had no idea it could take that long just to do the OS. plus i asked if they had any way of helping me put in the newest parts on a motherboard that might not have the bios for it yet and he said that if the motherboard wouldnt support it, it probibly wouldnt start up at all and left it at that.

i thought there was a way to flash the bios to the newest version or something to get it to accept the newest components but not being a hundred percent sure i gave him the benifit of the doubt.

does this guy know what he's talking about?

Installing he operating system doesn't take that long, especially if it's a new build with a fast processor.

And the only thing that the bios might not work with is the processor. That's where planning comes in. The worst case would be that the bios would have to be flashed using an older processor.

If i was you, I would go do it myself. Just take your time, and relax. If there are any problems, then just post them here.

i thought "it would take a day to do the OS" line was a little fishy but wasn't sure.

the only thing i was worried about was becouse i was eyeballin that 4870 X2 card i saw people talking about. but i think ill just stick with the 4870 HD until the price on that puppy goes down a couple-a-pegs.

thx.

btw, would that card be too big for an antec 900?

Probably not. Just won't be able to put the hard drive right behind it. Will have to put it either above or below the card.

Just built it yourself. You will probably run into some problems, but just post them on here, and people will help. Building a PC is not near as hard as it sounds. I think the hardest part for a newbie is getting parts that are compatible. Post your parts list on here.

You could have just linked to your part list here: "im new, i dont know what to do" - Joe Dirt

You didn't include the video card you were getting in that list above.

And I still say go with a seagate 7200.11 series.

Formatting the hard drive and installing the OS could take several hours, especially if it's a big drive. Maybe a 2 hour format + 1 hour OS install + 1 hour leeway for troubleshooting is most of the rest of a work day after a 2 hour construction.

But yeah, build it yourself.
