New PC Setup

Hey all,

So I built my first PC this weekend and the build went off without a hitch. Now, however, I am having trouble with the last few steps. I can't seem to get the hard drive ready. When I put the hard drive CD in, I get an error message that says something about the CD-ROM Drive not being connected, but it is, because if I put the Windows Vista cd in, it reads it and then sends me to like a blank desktop with no ability to do anything else!

If anyone can help me out with these last few steps to get this thing up and running, that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

What do you mean "get the hard drive ready"? Do you mean installing the OS? Make sure that it is all connected properly.

Go into bios, make sure the hard drive and the dvd drive are recognized. Then make sure it's set to boot from the dvd drive first.

After that, once you put the vista dvd in, it should take over and walk you through set-up.

For further assistance, please list the parts, both make and model.

Everything is recognized and it is set to boot from the DVD drive. When I put Vista in, it runs the BIOS screen and I have to press F1 to continue. After I do that, it says "Windows is loading files", that takes about a minute or so and then it just goes to a blank desktop. There are no icons, the OS install doesn't autorun or anything, I can move the mouse around but thats it.
