I am contemplating my first build and i have a few questions.
-What processor and videocard will be able to play current games as well as games in the near future? -What things should I look for in a motherboard? -What should i look for in a case? |

In a case, I look for something that will fit everything I want, fit where I want to put it, and looks good to me.
What processor, and video card will play current games? Well, it depends on what kind of games you play. Best bang for the buck is probably the e8400 or 8500 and the 4850. Of course, new products are always coming out, so things change. Just get the best you can when you can. Things to look for in a mb: First thing is that it accepts your processor. Intel for intel, and amd for amd's. Then is socket type. Then look for fsb, and chipset. You will also want o look to see if it has enough ports for your needs.

I think you need to start with a budget. How much you are willing to spend will narrow things down dramatically. This is generally $1500 and up for a good gaming machine that can play something like Crysis.
After that, hopefully a moderator will move your thread over to the Build Your Own PC category where you can get better and more specific help.

Sorry i forgot about that stuff. I would like to play World of Warcraft and COD world at war. My budget would be around $800 w/ monitor.
Hows this for a barebone starter... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1231&CatId=333 Lastly should i go dual core or quad core for gaming. Last edited by lonewolf142; 08-19-2008 at 05:09 PM. |

Hard to build a gaming computer on that budget if you need a monitor too.
MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131288 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115052 Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102747 OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116485 (combo deal) That brings a total of $637.44. You have $65 in mail in rebates. You would need to add shipping. Then you just have to pick out a case, and keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and speakers. |
