** Barebone help needed **
Hey guys im interested in building my first pc. I want to get this one from tiger direct.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1688&CatId=332 Some questions i had were does this come with a CD-drive?? does this need a network card or something or is all that stuff on the motherboard like i said this is my first barebone kit. so once i put this thing together will i be able to install windows XP and be able to go on the internet?? its obvious it comes with the basics but what does it not come with?? what do you suggest i should buy.. i think it doesnt come with fans.. im just not ready to buy a barebone kit and notice it doesnt come with a cd drive or hard drive or something like that.. this barebone stuff is confusing me. Im 15 and will build this PC with my cousin who knows how to build PC'S or my dads friend. So please tell me what i will need to buy seperate for this barebone. Thanks guys. By the way i would like to play games like counter strike source or team fortress 2 im not looking to play crysis or bioshock just simple games would this PC run it ok? |

Here is the quote from the link you supplied:
"Simply install your hard drive, DVD burner, and operating system - then you're good to go!" That is all you will need to have a good working PC, and yes the NIC is included, it is built into the motherboard. Onboard graphics are usually not very good though.

Tiger direct is the worse place to buy BareBone system.. They have lousy customer service, and alot od DOA.. For the price you should spend at least another $500-600$ and build your own from scratch.. You can do alot better than what their offering...

I would suggest skipping the barebone kit, and just getting the pieces seperately.
What is your budget? Would you need a monitor, operating system, keyboard, mouse? Are you willing to use parts from your old dell?

Finally someone who can help me. Yes i will use parts from my old dell. Which there may be none of usefullness since its horrible the only thing i could think of is its CD drive and HD. I have a 19 inch dell monitor some dell speakers also i even think this has a floppy drive. My budget is 500 dollars. Like i said i am not trying to build a expensive gaming rig. Just something i can play a few games like counter strike source. Mainly will use it for internet downloading and word processor simple stuff the usual. If you need more info from me i will be ready to reply.

I can get my own operating system but this old keyboard and mouse is outdated so i will probably want a new mouse and keyboard particularly a gaming mouse and keyboard.

Here is a build that will cost $449.94 before shipping. You also have $30 in mail in rebates.
I included a hard drive, and dvd burner. You will still need to use your old dell monitor. You will also have to pick out your own keayboard and mouse, and of course get the operating system. Hey shadow, i agree on that mostly, but I would change the gfx card. I would go with this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121098 Same amount of ram, but moving to GDDR3 makes a lot of difference on that card. With GDDR2, you would be kicking yourself for not spending $10 extra. |

Went with that card cause it had a fan on it.

Heh, you and passive cooling. :P Passive cooling is fine, and going to faster ram on the card will make you a lot happier than having a sucky fan. Plus, you see the size of that fan? It's not going to do much.

Here`s what I am using in my new system, GDDR3 memory plus a cooling fan. I know XFX may not be a mainline recognized card but I`ve used them in 3 builds so far and am very happy. They work!! The only game I play online that is graphic intensive is Second Life and I run this with the graphics set to ultra and I rez almost instantly. Almost unheard of there unless the settings are throttled back.
Oh, the lifetime warranty is nice to.. ![]() http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150260 |

Want to give a serious thumbs up on your HDD choice. I`m also using that in my build. Excellent performance and flat out the quietest drive I ever had.
