my new build
Hi,
thanks a lot for this forum, I'm working my way through the "build your own pc" page, and it's really helpful. I'm at the point where I'm connecting all the wires from the case to the motherboard, and that's proving to be a challenge... here's what I have: SILVERSTONE SST-TJ05B-X tyan thunder s2932 Thunder n3600m mobo, CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply. 2x AMD Opteron 2350 Barcelona 2.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket F 75W Quad-Core Server Processor 2x CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) 4gb total ASUS EN8600GTS/HTDP/256M GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card Is there any advice on connecting those wires from the case? Are there some I won't use? Some are redundant; and it's difficult to tell which is the + or - pin...I think I know where they go, though... I'm sure I'll have more questions, thanks! bp |

The motherboard manual should tell you where to connect the wires. It should have a diagram.

there is a diagram, just not a particularly helpful one...I'll go through it more carefully tomorrow. Does it matter which way the the little two-pin connectors go on? The diagram from the manual (the online version) has a + and - sign, but they're tiny..., and they're not lableled
thanks, bp |

I honestly just put them on. If it doesn't work, then switch them around.

that makes sense...i have a feeling I'm going to be doing a lot of that this weekend...
another potential issue is that I left all the motherboard settings at the default...that made the most sense to me, is that the way to go? For now I don't want to do any overclocking or anything bp |

I leave everything at stock settings except for boot order, and to make sure that the ram and cpu are correctly recognized.
I don't think about overclocking to i'm sure the computer is running good at stock. At least getting the os installed and drivers set up. |

okay,
I have my power supply and motherboard installed in the case, I just connected the hdd led wire, the power led wire, the power and reset switches. ram and chips are installled. Hard drives and graphics card are NOT installed. when I connect the psu to the wall socket, and switch it on, I see a green led on the motherboard, but when I hit the power switch on the computer case, nothing happens...what should I expect to see at this point; shoudn't the case fan and the cpu fans start spinning? update: I disconnected everything but the power switch, connected that, and when I hit the power switch on the case, I saw some led's neard the back input panel flash on...am I on the right track? bp Last edited by badperson; 08-23-2008 at 11:49 AM.
