help? PC build its been a minute
Ok so im getting handed down an old Thermaltake Armor case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154) so its time to build a decent gaming rig!!
Since i live in Hawaii well shipping is a huge issue and with this case out of the way I am looking to spend about 1,000 to 1,200! I have been out of this game for a while so I am almost lost here! looking for a SLI setup(i think), 2 gig ram min, 650w PSU (min unless otherwise recommended) and being in Hawaii a good network card would be very nice.. Killer NIC got some sick stuff (it could be just a lot of nothing but i don't know that much about it) P.S. I have a sick LN40A650A1F Samsung TV that i would like to hook up to it as well as a very nice Home theater system! |

Here is our basic list to get you started. We don't recommend SLI, its not worth it.
Asus P5Q Pro Motherboard Intel E8400 CPU 4GB DDR2-800 Corsair RAM Radeon HD4850 Video Card 500GB Seagate 7200.11 SATA Hard Drive LiteOn DVD Burner Corsair 650w Power Supply Your Armor Case That should fit into your budget. The motherboard has a built in NIC. Do you need anything besides the computer itself? Monitor/speakers/keyboard/mouse/Windows ?

No like i said i have a home theater system that i will be using for movies / DVE i have a monitor but its a POS and I don't wanna pay to ship a new one here so ill wait till i go to Cali or Texas to pick a good one up.. I do have that TV that i will be using as a monitor as well.. just gonna have to sit a ways back from it! haha
I dont have a keyboard, mouse or mic headset that works well. I would like to get a very nice heavy duty keyboard because i smash keys and same with the mouse! But thats not that important to me for an extra 150.. keyboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823126034 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823114004 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823175103 Personally i think the third choice is most reasonable at 49.99 for a mouse i was gonna go with this lil beauty http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826153024 I had one before but some punk kid stole it from a house party i had musta though it was cool or something! And i have Windows XP SP 3 multiple installs left Last edited by naten808; 08-26-2008 at 09:12 PM. |

I like Alaron's list, you can't go wrong with that setup. If you have more money to spend you can always go better with the video card but the HD4850 is the best bang for the buck at only $200.

A few suggestions.
Don't worry about the artic cooling. You won't need it with the stock intel heatsink. That already somes with a thermal pad on it. Get the retail dvd burner. It will give you an extra sata cable, and nero software for only a few dollars more. For ram, we usually recommend something with a cas 5. This would work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590

well correct me if im wrong.. but is not cas 5 slower than cas 3? and idealy dont you want the faster connection - for games and such?
also should i bump it up to 4 - 1 gig sticks? the ozc ram is much less $$ with its rebate.. Last edited by naten808; 08-28-2008 at 03:28 AM. |

Technically, the lower the cas, then the faster it is. Will it be a noticable difference? Most likely no. And intel builds seem to prefer, and work beter out the box with cas 5 memory.
There have also been issues when using all 4 slots for ram. If you want 4gb, I suggest you get 2x2gb instead. |
