no beep
built pc today, and miraculously everything works. lol
However, I realized, I'm not hearing the start up beeps. This is my first build, so I'm not exactly sure how those "beeps" come to be, but I'm pretty darn certain I don't need speakers to hear them, so I'm guessing I've either incorrectly plugged something, or something's missing Asus P5Q Pro mobo LGA775 *also, I get a quick flash of an error message "no hard disk detected" as it's booting. I don't have RAID setup and am using only 1 HD... any ideas? |

Do you have it set to boot from the dvd drive so you can install your os?
Is the hard drive recognized in the bios? And you would only hear beeps if you have a speaker connected to the motherboard.

yes, well... did.
after getting everything together, I went into the bios upon initial boot and reconfigured the boot order to 1. cd, 2. hard drive, and 3. disabled. then I installed the operating system (vista) with no issue. I had a small problem with the asus mobo cd until I went back in and reordered the boot order to 1. hard drive, 2. cd , 3. disabled the mobo cd started and i selected install everything.. well it kept sending me to dos to "make disk". I got around that by booting and then putting the disk in and finishing the drive installs, and it kept asking for the install cd when I rebooted. I had to cancel the first install because it kept running. i reordered the boot order before I realized what was going on with the request to insert the install cd one thing I wonder is I have the hard drive installed in the mobo SATA 1 port and the cd in the SATA 3 port... nothing in the SATA 2 port... could that be the problem? |

sound: I thought that was the case, *thought I had pc beeps on the last pc with no speakers* I'll fiddle with speakers today and see how it goes. thus far I've had pretty good luck, for my first ever time, building and being in BIOS. |

I might be wrong, but I think you and shadowpr are talking about two different speakers here. He's doesn't mean the speakers that you plug into the sound card.....there should be a small speaker hooked to the inside of the case that has a plug on the end of it that plugs onto the pins on the motherboard (where all the PWR, HDD, RESET pins are plugged into....should be some pins designated SPKR beside the others). You would plug the case speaker onto those pins IF your case has a speaker. Some don't....just have to check it out and see if yours does or not.
