Wink First build ever!! How decent of a computer can i get for $400?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on building a computer (Win XP Media Center edition), preferably small, to be used for word processing, music and web surfing. I was wondering how decent of a setup i could accomplish with about $400? i plan on recycling keyboard & mouse, and monitor. Probably ram too if it's compatible. Is that enough or should i up the budget? any suggestions on hardware would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks in advance!

To build a $400 PC box, you would need to use bottom end parts like a low end CPU, an UATX motherboard and use the on board video, small HD. Finding a decent PSU may be the hard part.
It can be done with careful part selection.

That comes to a subtotal of: $384.95

If you need windows, that will add another $100 or so.

for a case, look at In Win. They are good budget cases that come with quality power supply.
