This is my first build:
Mobo: Gigabyte EX38-DS4 CPU: Intel E600 PSU: Nexus NX-8060 RAM: Corsair Twin2X2048-640C4 G Case: Antec P182 Graphics: Geforce 8800GT CPU Fan: Noctua NH-U12P Assuming that I chose everything that was compatible, I've got it all assembled and I can't get it to boot. Apparently the Antec doesn't have a speaker so I don't get a series of beeps to indicate what's happening. The LED array is all lit up and seems to indicate maximum CPU loading. (I'm not sure what that means.) The power supply has two connectors in one sheath for the MOBO power: a larger one and a smaller one and they both fit in the MOBO connector. The graphics card fan spins but the CPU fan isn't spinning. (I used the smart fan adapter.) Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to tell if the MOBO is bad? (How likely is that?) I'm assuming you plugged in both the 24 and 4 pin connectors from the power supply into the motherboard?
Try this: PROBLEMS with a NEW BUILD? Try This!!

Right. There's the larger connector (24 pin?) and the smaller 4 pin connector. The MOBO IS getting power because the graphics card fan is spinning and the LED array for the CPU is all lit up.

I looked through the thread for the link that you posted. It looks like I should try and see if I can get it to boot outside of the case? Put the MOBO on a wooden cutting board and hook the PSU wires to it?
I didn't see much that was encouraging. I don't have access to anyone who I can swap parts with. Any suggestions? |

Try the out of case build with just the bare minimum. That will make trouble shooting easier.
I would put the motherboard on top of the motherboard box. |

It didn't work outside of the case either. I tried with one stick of RAM and it didn't help either.

I would try to get my hands on a different power supply first. See if that helps.
Either borrow, or buy one. EDIT: Try the stock heatsink first since you also said the cpu fan wasn't spinning. Last edited by shadowpr; 09-01-2008 at 10:40 AM. |

I figured it out! (Whew!!) There THREE power connectors coming from the PSU - there's the 20 pin and 4 pin connectors that fit into the main power supply connector on the MOBO. Then there's ANOTHER power supply connector that fits into a 4 pin connector on the other side of the MOBO. Who-da figured??
I thought that it was an EITHER / OR thing with the power supply connectors. Once I got all three connected, it POSTed! Thank goodness I didn't have any bad parts because I've been researching and buying a piece here and a piece there and there's a 30 day return policy on parts. |
