New Recommendation for New Rig

Hello All,

I'm building a new system around the new Phenom 9950 Quad Core AMD Processor. Other confirmed components are:

Seagate 7200 300 Gig Hard Drive
BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX A2+ Mother Board
Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 Video Card
Samsung 22x DVDRW
Windows XP Pro (32 bit)

I'm planning on using the PC for gaming, media applications, encoding, etc. Overall a pretty intense user. I also plan on adding another 4850 in the future in Crossfire Mode. I will be OCing the processor and video card.

Need recommendations on:

PSU - really not sure on this one. Want to make sure I'm okay now and in the future when I throw more stuff in the PC

Cooling System - the processor comes with a heat sink, and there are a few fans that come with the case (room for 5 fans total, only comes with 2). I understand that everything runs pretty hot in my setup; any recommendations on a cooling system, and is it worth it to invest in the incremental fans?

Ram - Even though running XP Pro, still plan on investing in 4gb of ram. Any recommendations? Is 1066 really worth it?

Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for all feedback and responses.

HD: Seagate 7200.11 500gb is about the sweet spot right now. Sata.

I haven't heard much about samsung dvd drivees. I recommend either asus or lite-on. Sata, retail.

Ram: ddr2-800 will probably be good enough, unless you overclock.

Power supply: Corsair 650 is good.

I would hold off on more fans and such until after you have it built. See if you really need anymore.

Thanks Shadow - I'll look in to the PSU. A bit more than what I wanted to spend, but not that much.

I'll definitely be overclocking. Any specific ram you like?

For ram, I like, and trust Corsair, g. skill, and I'm starting to like A-data. Crucial is also supposed to be good.

Yes Crucial and Corsair are both highly used RAMs.....also Shadow is a good person and knows what they are talking about. Only thing I would mention is that you can't go wrong with fans LOL. The more air flowing the more cooler your system will be if you have them set up. Just don't have cables everywhere and a lot of fans blowing, because it will be like they are blowing for no reason. All those cables blocking air flow. Good cable management plus fans equal cool PC.

PCMech FTW!!!

Also here is the link to the thread that talks about the good and bad PSUs. So if you don't want to take Shadows advice about the PSU then you can look here and then go to newegg and pick your own:

What Power Supply should I get? How many Watts? Who made it? Guide Inside

Keep in mind that more fans leads to more noise. I'd stick with just a couple to start and see how your system temperatures look. You can always add more, but you might indeed find you don't need to.
