Help loading XP
I'm in the next step in putting together a whole new computer. I've got all the parts put together, I've got the BIOS set up, and now I'm trying to load the OS and running into problems.
I've set up a RAID 1 in the BIOS. Seemed to go well and the drives appear there. I'm using a Upgrade version of XP with brand new HD's. I've done this before a few years ago and although I had to put in another disk (Win 98) to get the upgrade to continue it worked to do a "clean install". My issue is as the XP Upgrade CD does its thing it stops after about a minute and says it can't go on because there are no installed hard drives. Any help to be able to go on from here would be much appreciated. I think you might have to install the raid drivers first.

Shadow is correct about loading RAID drivers. What you need to do is get them off the motherboard CD and load them onto a floppy(will need to add a floppy drive). When starting the XP installation, there will be a window that asks if you have "mass storage" and I believe you hit F6 to load the drivers from the floppy.

That did it. I had downloaded them while setting up the BIOS, just like my MB instructions said to. I had to bastardize a floppy drive from an old PC. I thought those were obsolete? Anyway I thought that screen would be a farther along in the process and easy to see. It was in the beginning and only a small line on the bottom of the screen.
Thanks again guys, XP is loaded and working. Time to figure out what files I want to transfer over. I'll have this PC working by the end of the year
