Verifying DMI pool data
I have just finished assembling my first build, and am in the process of trying to get it to work. It starts up fine, and proceeds to the gigabyte screen (my mobo), and when it asked for me to put in the CD and press enter I did, but then it told me that there was a problem and i had to restart it. I did so and now it will not go past this message "Verifying DMI pool data". can anyone help please? my stuff is as follows (everything is brand new, except the monitor, haven't bought a new one yet):
Intel E8400 Gigabyte EP45-DS3R G. Skill 2x2GB PC Power & Cooling 750w Seagate 500gb HIS HD4850 Apevia X-Jupiter G-type OCZ Vindicator HS lite-on disk drive if it is any help the original problem said this: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. It this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. See this article. What service pack is the disc you are trying to install with? For the Verifying DMI Pool Data problem, try resetting the BIOS (instructions in mobo manual)

umm... the disk is from a friend, and is a burned copy of xp pro (sp1 i think). I guess i kinda assumed that the fault was in the computer, as i am slightly paranoid about something being broken... anyways i think i reset the bios (removed the battery for a minute and replaced it, but with no results. I still am at a loss as to what to do. thanks for your input.

Sorry, you're not going to get any assistance here if you have not legally purchased your own copy of XP... read the forum rules, piracy will not be condoned here.

The disk came from the computer teacher at a high school here in Saskatoon. I don't know for sure but I believe he purchased a volume license because he does much computer work for colleagues.

***problem solved; simply had to update the bios (had only updated drivers before)
I was under the impression that it was legal so long as the license allowed it, but regardless, I purchased my own new copy of XP Pro. Sorry for the problem. lucky me, that seemed to fix my issue with the DMI pool data, whatever the problem actually was... unfortunately, there is now another one (problem). I installed windows normally, and than proceeded to software and drivers, when i came to the motherboard driver. For some reason it restarted my computer at 3/5 parts complete, and when it began to reboot, the screen went blank after windows xp loaded (I didn't get to the welcome screen). I figured that the driver for the mother board was the problem and restarted it again(the screen was still blank, went onto standby) and missed the BIOS screens (looking on other computer for a sec) and then it asked me to either enter safe mode or start windows normally- but my keyboard would not work, and the same thing happened (blank screen). So i restarted it again and entered BIOS menu and did the load safe defaults, which ended up working, and i tried putting the motherboard disk back in. the same thing happened, and i (sort of) temporarily fixed it in the same way. Can someone tell me what is happening? I really didn't expect a seamless installation, since i have met several road blocks at ever stage of building this thing, but right now id really like to start playing CSS. Thanks for your (considerable) time reading this and any input you can make. Last edited by Teh OMEGA; 09-10-2008 at 09:47 PM. Reason: problem solved |

Perhaps the drivers on the disk are incompatible with the new version of the BIOS. You might want to try the latest and greatest drivers from Gigabyte's website.

If you are using a USB keyboard, either try using a PS2 or make sure USB legacy is enabled in the BIOS.

The Problem has been (mostly) solved. I still couldn't use the keyboard during load (haven't tried to use ps2 yet but i got it working so...), but once i got it fully operational, i reinstalled the latest bios for the Gigabyte mobo. I'm not exactly sure what it does, but it fixes the problem so the next time I boot, everything runs smoothly.
-- The problem started with the updating of the Videocard Driver (HIS HD4850) The moniter simply cuts out after the windows loading screen, but windows keeps loading (can hear the welcome chime through speakers) So I restart and try to boot again, and again, and again, occasionally entering BIOS and then selecting save and exit (I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, I was just kind of zoned out) finally i got windows to fully load, and I reinstalled the MOBO BIOS, and then the computer would completely load just fine. But sometimes when I install new software/drivers (haven't confirmed anything) it happens again, so I just restart until it loads properly and reinstall the BIOS. I guess it works for now, but its still kinda of stupid and I dont understand any of it |

Dang
Ok scratch my last post, the problem is still happening, apparently my fix was just coincidental, and nothing really changed.
